Do you keep getting flooded by memories of a traumatic event?

Do you experience recurrent nightmares?

Do you feel like your mind and your body can never really rest?

Perhaps you are experiencing significant reactions whenever you are reminded of someone or something…

or you feel on alert all the time…

In the same way our bodies have the capacity to heal after an injury, so does our brain. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) utilizes the brain's natural processing system in a way that "jump starts" healing. Similar to cleaning out a wound in order for it to heal, EMDR helps begin that process within our brain. Through EMDR, clients can find relief from distressing memories, intrusive thoughts, nightmares and somatic symptoms.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment to help people recover from trauma and other distressing symptoms. EMDR is different from traditional talk therapy in that you do not have to speak in detail about your memories or experiences in order to heal. This can be incredibly effective for people who have tried therapy in the past and found it ineffective.

EMDR is a specialty mental health intervention and can only be provided by professionals trained in this modality.

EMDR can help treat a variety of experiences and works with clients of any age. Symptoms or disorders treated include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias

  • Chronic illness and medical issues

  • Depression and bipolar disorders

  • Dissociative disorders

  • Eating disorders

  • Grief and loss

  • Pain

  • Performance anxiety

  • Personality disorders

  • PTSD and other trauma and stress-related issues

  • Sexual assault

  • Sleep disturbance

  • Substance abuse and addiction

  • Violence and abuse

If you believe that your past is intruding on your present, and you want to know more about EMDR therapy and how it may help you, you can contact our therapists trained in EMDR to schedule an appointment or a free 15-minute phone consultation.
